[COMING SOON] Eichenwalde | New Map Preview | Overwatch (via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3xFKckFCGM)

Published on Aug 16, 2016

Revealed at gamescom 2016, Eichenwalde is an Assault/Escort hybrid map set in an abandoned village on the outskirts of Stuttgart, Germany.

The site of one of the most famous battles during the Omnic Crisis, it was here that the leader of the Crusaders, Balderich von Alder, and a handful of his best soldiers made a last stand against an advancing automaton army. Outnumbered and outgunned, they were ultimately slain during the resulting combat. However, thanks to their valiant efforts, the German military was able to push back the omnic offensive and win the fight.

On this map, one team must escort a battering ram to Eichenwalde Castle to reclaim Balderich’s remains from their current resting place, while the opposing team does everything in its power to thwart the keep from being breached.

Mod!Erik: Not an HC or a Confession, but hey, we got a New Map coming soon!

First thing I notice here, there’s a LOT of dead/destroyed Bastion units, so it looks like our playable Bastion isn’t the last one. Secondly, the state of decay and overgrowth they’re in suggests they’ve been there for a long time, meaning that Eichenwalde has likely been abandoned since the first Omnic Crisis.

Next up, THE PAYLOAD HAS A FRICKIN’ PISTON-POWERED BATTERING RAM ON THE FRONT! How cool is that?

And finally, the suit of armor on the throne near the end. Could this be a previous Doomfist, meaning that Eichenwalde is the ancestral home of the infamous legacy villain? Or is this some relic belonging to an ancestor of Reinhardt, meaning that this is Castle Wilhelm?

Either way, this new map looks to be loads of fun! I’m a sucker for medieval stuff, so this one’s right up my proverbial alley! :D
