Here’s 8 reasons why Wario is really rad and I get salty when people simplify him to just a ‘gimmicky Mario ripoff’:

I said it before but Wario is one of the best characters that exists in the Mario universe. Here’s why:

• Doesn’t really have a love interest. The one character he’s ever canonically shown to be devoted to however is his pet chicken, called Hen. She only appears in one game, but he would literally give up his riches for this bird and its adorable.

• Has a really interesting character design/ body type, being both overweight but strong and muscular. It reflects his lifestyle of being gluttonous but also the fact he likes to work out, which is really clever.

• Is an unlikely anti-hero, who (although his greed and gluttony win most of the time) will still save people and can be a pretty bold guy

• Has a reason and plan for everything he does and is very self driven, as apposed to Mario who goes with the flow and is reactive.

• His games are one of the few that ever frame Mario in a bad light. While Mario is the still the ‘good guy’, he accidentally insults and diminishes Wario’s efforts making you fully understand why Wario might have beef with the guy.

• While Mario seems to have everything fall into place for him, Wario has to work extremely hard for anything he gets. In half of his games he doesn’t even really ‘win’, making him relatable af. 

• All the re-occurring women in his life are goddamn badasses. His arch rival? Captain Syrup, a cunning and cruel pirate. His work colleagues in Warioware, like Ashley and Kat & Ana are adorable kids that also probably have already killed a man or two in their time. Mona, the only thing resembling a romantic lead actually pines over him, not visa versa.

• He is probably one of the most fleshed out and multi-faceted characters in the Mario universe. Seriously go check out his page on Mariowiki if you don’t believe me; it reads like a damn winning time magazine article of someones autobiography.
