ROUGH DRAFT - This is where I set up the camera angle and the composition. This originally started as a stand alone background, which I completed for this commission.ROUGH CHARACTER POSES - This one will determine the position and body language of the characters. Some pictures live or die in this step.SKETCH CHARACTERS - This is where many of the changes will be applied, mostly to correct anatomy mistakes and proportions. Notice the head of Strawberry (upper right) changed from the previous pic.
SKETCH - Completed sketch showing the characters, their expressions, the background, and a rough idea of the atmosphere.BACKGROUND - This one's getting saved so I can re-use it for future Movie Slate updates. That background's begging to be filled with silly ponies.MOCK UP COLORS - This one's purpose is to help me diferentiate which character is which. This is helpful with pictures that are particularly busy.
BASIC COLORS - This is how the picture looks without the shading and the atmosphere. The colors will change depending on what's on the screen, and since this is for a romance...PALETTES - ...I went for something warm and golden, which is a color palette you see very often in movies of that genre. My collection of palettes is fairly alright, and it's pretty useful too.ROUGH SHADING - I like to use the "multiply" style of layer on my shading. For some reason I like the tones it brings up.
