I just want to express that even tho I like Genji as a character, I am sick and tired of him poking his ass into places where it doesn’t belong.

Yes, his (numerous) appearances can give us a pretty good indication of when certain events take place. Specifically times between when Genji gets maimed by Hanzo, but before he goes off to Nepal (nipple). And its not like he doesn’t go through awesome character development (even tho as of right now he’s the only character going through any development)

What I mean by that is, why was the person responsible for making this decision so gung ho about making Genji the focus of a scene specifically discussing Tracer?

This is the first shot we see inside of the training facility. Okay, it shows two people sparring, one is clearly Genji, the other is Tracer but you can barely tell its Tracer in this scene because the artist was too busy looking at Sasuke or something more likely, too busy putting more detail into Genji’s entire body than making sure Mercy had a human face in later panels.

“How is she doing?” Jack asks. Oh okay so that IS Tracer. Couldn’t really fucking tell because Genji “doesn’t look like he needs a full cyborg body” Shimada over here is the biggest thing in the picture.

Again, this is a scene discussing Tracer, and she continues to not be the focus even when she’s the biggest person in the panel, she isn’t facing us (and we can see that she has no internal organs either but whatever this isn’t an art critique I guess) so that causes the reader to look where SHE is looking as opposed to looking at her.

And this is the last time we see Tracer before the topic is switched to London and before she goes to talk to Jack and goes on her first mission.

Again Genji (nipple-free now), even tho he’s not the focus, is demanding the attention of the reader by being in the front and being the biggest object in 2/3 panels. Why is this so annoying? Because in the entire scene they’re discussing Tracer’s role in Overwatch if she has one, she’s the one whose abilities are being tested, but every panel that includes her is putting the spotlight on Genji even tho no one is even talking about him.

Like half the comic is concerning Tracer, but when they were given an inch to present Genji, and they took a mile. If he was just there fighting Tracer, it’d be one thing, but its HOW they shoehorned him into this comic.

The artist of the comic (or whoever was responsible for making the decision) demands Genji be the one looked at and not the person everyone else in the scene is talking about. Also consider the amount of detail that was put into him and not her, where his anatomy is mostly in tact (except for the misplaced nipple) but Tracer is drawn sloppily, with screwy anatomy, pisspoor perspective compared to Genji, and is off-model throughout the entire comic.

But those few panels Genji is in? You can tell the amount of effort put into it.

And the one panel where its just Tracer by herself, she’s not facing the audience, so its disengaging. Its not something readers consciously think about. But it is intentional by the person making the comic. Basically if you want something to be the focus, you make it bigger.

Yeah, I’m nitpicking, but I really don’t fucking care because I’m sick of Genji being like Hollywood’s flavor of the week by turning up in shit and taking attention away from more deserving characters even when no one acknowledges that he’s even in the room. All because someone couldn’t help but shove Genji in there for no reason.

Ok… but a key technique in visual story telling is using perspectives, background, and interactions to tell a story within a story. Obviously they’re talking about tracer, we get that. Like the characters are flat out talking about her. The audience gets that. Like you literally are being nit-picky for no reason.

“Ok… but a key technique in visual story telling is using perspectives, background, and interactions to tell a story within a story.” You’re right. So take away the dialogue and see how obvious it is who the focus is on for that scene.

the artist is clearly a genji main and is his boyfriend
