For nine months it is inside of and a part of her. She risks death to carry and birth it, and it is her child. Forged of her tissue, blood, cartilage, and bone. Patriarchy is the myth that a man and a woman’s contribution to bringing life into the world is equal. Clearly it is not. Mothers and grandmothers are the curators of the continuation of life and they always have been. Useful fathers are the exception, not the rule.
