MLP season 8 premiere was amazing
I will not extend too much on my opinion about the new two episodes, but I have to talk about this in one way or another. Let me take a personal approach.
At the moment I am studying to become a teacher, and for me education is key in any society (duh). I hold a special admiration towards the education sciences, as well as a critical perspective about how it is performed. How classes that are supposed to encourage and wake student’s curiosity end up making them anxious, disgusted towards the idea of going to class everyday, bored in lessons about their favourite areas of learning, from a very early age. How personalised education for every student is a challenge, because for teachers there is a set of greater rules to follow, and objectives to achieve, so at some point they are forced to make a choice between being a good teacher or being a productive teacher. How this lack of personalised attention gets harder on students with very specific needs, from different social classes and different cultures.
I honestly can’t believe MLP would take such a brave step with these two episodes, not only making them about actual education problems, but also racism in education. Not because I think MLP wouldn’t be this honest, but because I know it’s hard to put these issues in a kids show. I am very proud of this series, of how strong it is after seven seasons and a movie, of how it still surprises me with every new episode, and of how seriously takes real world issues, so, in a way, the series can become a different kind of teacher, in a new unique way, for children all around the world.
